brunch bunch

my sweet friend, dawn, met me for brunch today before the hubbs and i left little rock for father's day weekend. she had this past week off from work so we planned a day to meet up. now y'all, if we were having brunch in chicago, I would have picked either the southern, toast, elly's or rockit bar..yes it would have been a hard decision, but i knew my top choices. since i am still exploring little rock's foodie scene, i didn't have a list of top choices or even one single restaurant to suggest.. sad!! thankfully one of my sweet new friends, natalie, told me about b-side off rodney parham. so sweets that is where we ended up today and it is definitely my number one (and only so far..haha) brunch bunch spot!!

dawn got the yummy eggs benedict, which the eggs were poached to perfection. i got the mouth-watering, dream-about, got-to-have chicken and waffles (pictured at top). yes, that meal deserved everyone of those adjectives!! the chicken was fabulously fried sans grease (which is a hard task!), the waffles were crispy whole wheat goodness and the syrup was all kinds of sweet yumminess. beyond our meal, the service was exceptional, and our waitress split the bill before we even asked!! sweets, that's southern hospitality restaurant style!!

thanks dawn for such a fun brunch bunch!! needless to say y'all, i will be making many more visits to b-side and y'all should too!!

supper club

hey sweets!! now what puts y'all in the summer mood more than a BBQ and friends!!

this past wednesday, we were invited to our sweet little rock friend's supper club!! this month's dinner was held at robert and barrett's lovely new home in the heights.

we dined on burgers and hotdogs, along with a trio of delish summer salads and a new twist on roasted asparagus. the best part was visiting with our dear, inviting old friends and making oh so sweet new friends!!

enjoy these recipes below!! i inserted pictures from the world wide web since I was not able to capture photos at dinner..

from the kitchen of barrett f.

{Tomato & Mozzarella Salad}
•Mixture of red and yellow grape and/or cherry tomatoes-some sliced in 1/2
•Mozzarella sliced in small squares (I always get my Mozz. at Sams Club)
•Fresh basil chopped
•Extra Virgin Olive Oil
•kosher salt
•pepper
Combine tomatoes, Mozz. and basil in bowl and drizzle EVVO and add Kosher salt and pepper

{Seafood Pasta Salad}
•package of refrigerated tri-color cheese tortellini
•artichoke hearts
•imitation crabmeat
•sundries tomatoes (in the jar) chopped
•handful of chopped purple onion
•shredded Parmesan cheese
•pesto
•salt & pepper
~ Cook pasta and set aside to cool. Then combine remaining desired ingredients and serve cold.

{Roasted Asparagus}
•fresh asparagus
•shaved Parmesan cheese
•lemon
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
•kosher salt
•pepper
~ Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lay asparagus in single layer roasting pan. Drizzle with EVVO, add salt and pepper. Cook for about 10-15 minutes to desired tenderness. Garnish with shaved Parmesan and a little lemon. *sometimes barrett roasts with minced garlic*

from the kitchen of little mrs. morris

{Crunchy Coleslaw}
•2 bags of coleslaw
•1 bottle of zesty Italian dressing
•1 bag of beef ramen noodles
•1 bag of original roasted almond slivers
~ Break uncooked ramen noodles into pieces and set aside. Take beef ramen noodle seasoning packet and add to bottle of zesty italian dressing then shake until the seasoning is dissolved. Toss the beef seasoned zesty Italian dressing with the two bags of coleslaw. If you are preparing ahead of time (like me), let the tossed coleslaw marinate with the dressing in the refrigerator throughout the day. If you are making the coleslaw ready to serve, go ahead and toss the raw broken ramen noodles and bag of original roasted almond slivers with the already tossed coleslaw plus dressing and serve immediately. *this recipe serves about 8 guests.*

happy cookin' sweets!!

vagabonds

for the past two weeks, the hubbs and I have been living the vagabond lifestyle. not because we are homeless {believe me we are completely settled in and are going a little craycray not having j-o-b-s in little rock}, but because we have been traveling non-stop and living out of one suitcase for the past two weeks. yes one suitcase, one measley wardrobe, millions loads of laundry so we don't get that vagabond smell.

hints, why I haven't blogged because my sweet little iPad has been hibernating at the apt.

after we left st. louis for memorial day 2012, we headed straight to MoonLake. when I mean straight to MoonLake, we literally hopped out of brookie's car and hopped into the hubbs truck with making tracks straight to MoonLake. yes, we only had the clothes we packed. and yes, we did not even think twice about going back to our new apt. with no current responsibilities to a job, we said why not?!

after our little rendezvous to MoonLake, we drove east to alabama for a weekend trip to our sweet little camp bernie to visit my family. clarkie and sherbear were ecstatic!!

over our two lake trips we did a lot of boat ridin', juggin', fishin' {hubbs only}, good food eatin', cold beer drinkin', family fun havin'!! the hubbs and I are so blessed to have amazing parents that we love to visit every chance we get!!

enjoy y'all..

memorial day 2012

city of brotherly love...well city of best friend fun is more like it!! over memorial day {yes, two weeks ago..sorry sweets, I forgot my iPad!!}, we spent memorial day weekend in st. louis with our dear friends, winston and brookie!! they were so sweet to invite us to celebrate brookie's birthday!! we did it up right, y'all!! from oysters-on-the-half-shell to the piano bar to a cardinals game to sunday lunch at lamberts cafe home of the throwed rolls, we had an absolute blast!! even though the heat was out-ra-geous, we still enjoyed every inch of st. louis!!

y'all enjoy the picture montage from our very memorable memorial day weekend 2012..

mini faye vacay

the hubbs and i drove to fayetteville for a lovely two-night stay!! we felt so spoiled because fayetteville is usually a treat for us to vacation to only on one, maybe two {if we are lucky), game weekends in the fall. now that we are soo close to faye, only about a 2 1/2 hour drive, we were able to go and help out my in-laws with the house. we did a much-needed cleaning around the house, and then we dilly-dallied around town.

this picture of razorback stadium got the hubbs and i geard up for football season!! only 102 days away!! war damn & woo pig y'all!!

of course, we made a stop at slim chickens sunday night, but my first must-have stop was monday morning for my guilty pleasure, a common grounds iced coffee. seriously y'all, this delicious drink is to-die-for!! honestly, I dream about their iced coffees. needless to say, I had to get one to-go before we left faye today..haha.. now, that's what you call an addiction!!

since we always have a set plan for game weekends, the hubbs showed me parts of the surrounding area that I have never seen. we drove up to beaver lake, which reminds me of camp bernie on my sweet lake martin. beaver lake was gorgeous!! it got us pumped for summer weekends at moon lake and camp bernie!!

last night we made our first stop on dickson street at hog haus. we enjoyed a couple cold fat boy blues on the outside patio. the weather was perfect for an outdoor seating at dinner so we headed to wasabi for sushi on the patio and people watching.

before we left today, we dined at hammontree's grilled cheese. one word.. YUM!! our sweet friends, drew & dawn, told us it was a must. their advice surely did not disappoint!! i got the brie's company. soo good!!

y'all know I love the lovely plains at my sweet alma mater, auburn, but faye is one-of-a-kind. it is just a little funky, southern hill town. it is always a good time when we get to go and say hey to faye. now that we are back in our sweet home south, we will be doing a lot more visiting to the hubbs old stomping grounds!!

till next time faye!!

sweet southern sunshine

goodness y'all, it feels good to be back south!! the hubbs and i are slowly but surely getting use to the sweet slow life of the south.

when we go for walks, we hear the birds and crickets not city buses and honking horns.. haha!!

one thing i have sure missed is the sunshine!! the feeling when it hits your skin is just marvelous!! love me some vitamin d!!

today y'all, enjoy this picture of me lounging poolside in the sweet southern sunshine!!
